Beeline Pest Control on Ants

Ants are a common household pest. There is an estimated 10,000 different species of ants, most commonly found in terrestrial ecosystems or land areas with limited water supplies. Ants can usually be found in sizable groups called colonies, and though some species can be helpful to the environment, they can also become an annoyance in your house by getting in your food, on your clothes, and basically anywhere they might look for their next meal. Ants use pheromones, which are invisible to people, yet they can create a pathway to food sources, relocate the colony, and even summon anywhere from a few to thousands of ants for the attacking of prey or the defense of the colony.

One specific type of ant called "carpenter ants" can even cause damage to your house. This species of ants hollows out wood for nests. Carpenter ants are fast moving, only stopping to feed and share food with other ants. They are most active at night and create sub-nests or "satellite nests" in structures where wood has become moist. The main nest or "parent nest" is commonly found outdoors usually in trees, logs, or wood piles.

We usually treat most ant species with non-repellent ant bait. The ants ingest the bait and take it back to their nest where they spread it throughout the colony through interaction and grooming. This particular treatment is highly effective for inside the home. For outside treatment, we use spray applications that effectively eliminate the colonies.
